Chennai Will Host Only Women’s Matches In T20 Cricket World Cup 2016

MA Chidambaram Stadium will not host any men’s fixtures in the ICC T20 World Cup 2016.  Chennai’s  MA Chidambaram Stadium will hosts only women’s fixtures in T20 Cricket World Cup 2016 (T20) series. Dave Richardson who is CEO of International Cricket Council (ICC) is against to Chennai for any men’s fixture, Because three stands of Chepauk(MA Chidambaram Stadium) do not have permission for audience seat. Due to this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have nothing to do with the scheduling of men’s fixtures in the ICC T20 World Cup 2016. According to  report mentioned in Cricbuz, Official  broadcasters and ICC representatives who is responssible for scheduling ICC events told the BCCI that three vacant stands in stadium during ICC T20 World Cup would degarade the impression of such tournament.

 

After an opinion of Dave Richardson, BCCI official told one of newspaper reporter that “This is an ICC event and the BCCI has nothing to do with the scheduling.” Four years ago, In ICC World Cup 2011, Chennai has witnessed four games of the tournament. At that time during 2011 ICC World Cup, all the stands were available. An ICC official said that if the stands been available at the venue, the men’s fixture would have been held at this stadium.  An ICC official said that “Chennai has a very sporting crowd and if the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association can sort out its differences with local authorities, the ICC will not hesitate to allot matches there.”

BCCI also clears that no any Ranji Trophy matches will be play at the ICC venues like Kolkata, Bangalore, Mumbai, Dharmshala, New Delhi, Mohali and Nagpur in February.

Pune would be considered for the Ranji final, while Baroda and Cuttack would considered for the semi-finals. The quarters finals of the Ranji Trophy will be held either in Vishakapatnam, Mumbai, Ranchi or Bangaluru.
